Highlights

Geelong Adventure Specialists

Welcome to Geelong Adventure Specialists, they offer a range of activities to cater for all ages, beginner to advanced. Their focus is on the seasonal outdoor activities. Currently it is land-based activities and tours locally, and activity specific trips further afield. If you are keen for a challenge, a fun day with friends, or just some time out in one of the many diverse and beautiful natural places in the region, Geelong Adventure Specialists will take care of everything. Are you ready for some fun? Contact Geelong Adventure Specialists for further information.

You Yangs

Rising from the flat, volcanic plains between Geelong and Melbourne, the granite peaks of the You Yangs are a terrific destination for many outdoor activities. Walk to Flinders Peak for panoramic views of Geelong, Corio Bay, the Western Districts and beyond. There are several walking tracks within the park catering for varying abilities. The You Yangs are popular for mountain biking; the two designated mountain bike areas offer 50km of track. The park is also popular for rock climbing, abseiling and horse riding and there are BBQ and picnic areas available, as well as toilets.

Skydive the Beach and Beyond

Skydive the Beach and Beyond has two exciting locations in country Victoria. The Great Ocean Road where you will see stunning coastal views of The Great Ocean Road, Bells Beach and Melbourne city. Also the Yarra Valley where you will see views of the 141 wineries, Dandenong Ranges and Port Phillip Bay! You begin the day with a briefing with your tandem sky dive instructor. This includes what to expect and what you will see on the plane flight to height, in freefall, under canopy and upon landing. You will walk out to the plane and there you will conduct your practice exits. Once all the ground preparation has been completed, it is time to get in the plane and get ready for take-off! Once you reach height, it will be time to prepare you for the jump. The door opens and as you leave the plane, you and your tandem master will accelerate through the air reaching terminal velocity of 220 kilometres per hour. Freefall feels like riding a cushion of air similar to riding a big wave. In freefall, your senses will be able to take in stunning views as far as the eye can see. Then finally it is time to pull your parachute open. From the loud rushing of air that you hear all around you, the parachute ride is very different as you sail around the sky, gliding. The landing is easy, just lift your legs. The parachute will glide and you will eventually put your feet down to land.

Werribee Open Range Zoo

Why travel thousands of kilometres, when a taste of African adventure is available just 30 minutes from Melbourne's city centre, at Werribee Open Range Zoo, you will find an amazing array of animals living on 225 hectares of wide, open savannah. On the Pula Reserve Walking Trail, come face-to-face with amazing gorillas, a pride of lions, see monkeys and cheetahs at play and discover a family of hippopotamus at the Kubu River Hippopotamus exhibit. No trip to the Zoo is complete without heading out on safari across grassy plains where you will find rhinoceros, giraffes, zebras and antelopes grazing together on the picturesque savannah. All of the above, including the 40-minute safari tour, is included in the Zoo admission price. For those looking for even more adventure, then why not try one of the behind-the-scenes Wild Encounters. Feed a giraffe, stroke a serval and see amazing animals up close from the open vehicle. Don't miss the latest attractions that are exhibiting at Werribee Open Range Zoo. They have one of the world's largest gorilla exhibits and the new-look luxury Slumber Safari overnight accommodation. Visit the website for more details.
Avalon Raceway
Near Anakie

Avalon Raceway

Avalon Raceway first opened in the summer of 1976 which saw the dream of brothers Doug and Norm Drew come true. Both had been active drivers around the region and with the closure of Torquay Speedway saw the Drew Family build the Speedway on the land in Old Melbourne Road, Lara. Since that time the family have strived to improve the venue and along the way have created a number of Blue Ribbon Events that are nationally recognised. The early years saw Solo and Sidecars as the major drawcard attracting world champions Ole Olsen, Barry Biggs, Ivan Mauger, along with touring English Lions teams and European champions battle with legendary Phil Crump, while the sidecar action was nothing short of incredible with an Australian Championship and numerous Victorian Titles contested with the introduction of more clay content in the early 90's saw the demise of bike racing and the emergence of Sprintcar Racing which today Avalon Raceway holds a number of events which are highly rated on the national scene. These include the newly created Invitational Jackpot, the Presidents Cup, World Series Sprintcars and Round One of the Easter Trail. Avalon also hosts major events for its other classes as well. The K Rock Cup a major Super Sedan Show, West Coast Classic, Victoria's longest running Modified Production Feature plus major events for V8 Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks, Speedcars and AMCA'.

The Barwon River is the site for a huge number of leisure pursuits for Geelong residents. There are several rowing clubs located in Belmont, and a little further south there is an area for waterskiing. At various points along the river as it runs through Geelong there are tracks for running, cycling and walking. There are also several parks, playgrounds, picnic spots and BBQ areas. The mouth of the river has sandy banks that are well used walkers and families who build sandcastles and paddle in the shallows.
