I rarely sleep in on holidays. It might have something to do with the two walking, talking alarm clocks who call me Mum, but I think it’s more about waking up excited for another day dedicated to fun. It’s amplified even more when we’re near the beach – hearing the waves crash, the fresh salty air- it compels you to get up and get outside – then you need to find somewhere to eat! Here are some of our favourites in Ocean Grove:
The Dunes: aptly named venue nestled into the top of the sand dunes of Ocean Grove Main Beach with views from the Bluff to Point Lonsdale (and beyond on a clear day!), this local institution opens from 6.30am and is full of beach walkers, coffee drinkers and has some great options for brekkie.
Driftwood Café: a great spot in the main street, the food and coffee is magic, the menu is broad enough to satisfy everyone and it’s welcoming for families and even pets outside. Oh, and brekkie is available all day for anyone who’s sleeping in!
Mr Grubb Café @ Oakdene: Head a little way out of town to the Oakdene Vineyards casual café for brekkie surrounded by gorgeous gardens and art. We love the distinctly local flavours on the menu. We had Kossies Eggs (scrambled) on Le Madre Sourdough ($10.50) and Wildings Granola with Drysdale yoghurt ($12).
Start the day with a breakfast of champions that doesn’t break the bank.
