On the last Sunday of March, the Pirra Homestead in Lara is laid out with the ultimate spread; The Lara Food and Wine Festival. Thousands of people flock to the lawn of the Homestead to eat, sip and sample their way through the vast amount of quality food, beverages and produce our region has to offer.
The exhibitors of the Festival are divided into four distinctly delicious sections; beverage, food, produce and sweet treats. Here's a mouth-watering little teaser of each these sections.
Located in an area that is abundantly rich with not only wineries but also breweries, distilleries and cider houses. Jack Rabbit Winery is one of the region's best known, famed for their award-winning cool climate wines (awarded eight medals at The International Cool Climate Wine Show, 2018). Crafted from premium Bellarine fruit and produced using small batch handling, traditional and sustainable practices, Jack Rabbit’s wine will be served for your enjoyment at the Lara Food and Wine Festival.
It’s a multicultural feast at the Lara Food and Wine festival with Italian, Mexican, Greek, Jamaican, and Spanish featuring in the food line-up. Serving up some American flare in total boss style is none other than Geelong born, bred and favourite ‘Boss Burger Co’. Boss Burger Co first hit the local scene with their Pakington Street (Geelong) store. People caught on swiftly to Boss’ mighty flavours, and up popped three more stores! Boss’ American-style burgers, self-described as a ‘little bit street’ and reviewed as ‘extremely generous’, will be ready and waiting to get in your belly at the Festival.
Pulled fresh from the land, plucked straight from the sea, are the beautiful bounties of our locality. Cheese, seafood, vegetables, fruit, butter and so much more fresh produce is sourced directly from our great land. The people, families, producers behind these wares are all on hand to step you through their high-quality processes at the Lara Food and Wine Festival, including Manzanillo Grove, a family owned and operated olive grove located in the fertile valleys of the Bellarine Peninsula. Their bio-dynamic grove has been recognised and awarded with numerous accolades including the prestigious ‘Olive Grove of the Year’ (a national prize for the best grove is Australia). Manzanillo masterfully create numerous varieties and blends, all of which can be tried at the Festival.
What better way to round off an already very round belly than with the best food course of all; dessert! Icecream, donuts, puddings, waffles, chocolate – choose one or choose them, as they are all there for the taking at the Lara Food and Wine Festival. Bellarine Brownie Co; handcrafters of delicious morsels are set to give you the ultimate taste sensation with their brownies, blondies and rocky road. Gluten-free? No probs, you don’t need to be brownie-free, because Bellarine Brownie Co’s products don’t contain any! Can’t possibly fit anymore food in? No probs, grab one of their brownie packet mixes and cook up a storm at home.
