On the long weekend in June, when the Victorian winter has set in and Portarlington feels like it could be an Irish town or one of the Scottish Isles, the town turns on the greatest celebration of Celtic culture in Australia with the National Celtic Festival.
The festival showcases a great range of contemporary Celtic music and dance along with traditional songs, pipers, drummers and jigs. In addition to the rocking festival tents there are more intimate performances and acoustic sessions at bars and other venues around town.
As well as the performances of proclaimed Australian and international talent there are workshops, displays and markets.
Dance up a storm, drink Guiness, enjoy the live music or just soak up the traditions being kept alive by contemporary artists. From Friday night to Monday afternoon on the long weekend in June.
