Now in it's second year, the Winter Shiraz Weekend is a celebration of the coolest of cool-climate wine, and runs throughout the region on the 8th and 9th of July.
Take a tasty trip through local wine-making regions (Moorabool Valley, The Bellarine and the Surf Coast) visiting vineyards, restaurants and bars. Presented by Wine Geelong, the weekend is a unique opportunity to meet the makers; as legendary local vignerons discuss their techniques, personal favourites and award-winning wines. Sampling is definitely encouraged.
This spectacular Shiraz celebration kicks off on the Friday evening with special tasting sessions at select venues. Pick up a program overflowing with full-bodied food and wine experiences, lots of live music and even a series of masterclasses for the connoisseurs.
With so many local operators involved (and so many wines to try), we recommend staying for the whole weekend by booking some local accommodation, or even arrange your very own bespoke wine tour (and designated driver) from For the Love of Grape, Mustang & Co. and other tour operators in the region. Alternatively, just ditch the cars altogether and take a quick trip from Melbourne on the Port Phillip Ferry, where you can soak up some sea air before starting on the shiraz.
So prepare your palate for a wonderful weekend, as the region basks in the midwinter glow.
