Spring a Ding Ding. It's School Holiday time

Are you chomping at the bit to get the kids outside these school holidays? After being locked inside all winter they might be tired of board games and dress ups. It’s time to let them loose and wear them out so they’re tucked up in bed nice and early.

1. TEDDY CHECK UP @ WERRIBEE OPEN RANGE ZOO

Werribee Ranger Kids are invited to bring their teddies in for a full examination by the special teddy care team. Includes an x-ray machine, surgery tables and stretchers for recovery. Free entry for children and teddies. Vet staff will be available each day of the school holidays from 11am-3pm. Age Suitability 2-8 years

2. GEELONG GAOL GHOST TOUR

For only the very brave, spook the family at the Geelong Gaol with ghost tours every night from 8pm. Explore the prison after dark and be haunted by stories of all who once called this three story blue stone building home. The tour will take you back to a time in the 19th century. Suitable for 8 years and above.

3. THE FARMERS PLACE

Farmer for a Day. The kids will have loads of fun with a whole range of activities. Depending on the day, they may include feeding the animals and learning about why we farm them, propagating seeds and planting seedlings or helping to develop a wetland. Not to mention cooking your own country styled morning tea. Morning tea and lunch included. Ages 7 –14. Limited spaces, so please pre-book your place. $90.00 per child. There also a heap of other sustainable activities over the holidays.

4. NARANA ABORIGINAL CULTURAL CENTRE

This September School Holidays “Experience Narana” with their new Guided Cultural Tours Listen & Learn about The Worlds’ Oldest Living Culture with Narana’s expert Cultural Interpreters on their 1 hr guided tours running daily Monday to Friday at 10am, 1pm & 3pm. Enjoy an Indigenous Artefacts Talk, get back to nature strolling through the ‘Curragundi’ on a  Native Garden Walk, Meet Narana’s Emu’s & Wallabies and Learn How To Throw a Boomerang!  After your tour you can even Paint Your Own Boomerang and take a little bit of Narana home with you.

Why not take advantage of the fact we are surrounded by water and get the darlings out on the bay? Test their skills with some great organised activities including a variety of short and overnight trips on the Enterprize or more activities that you can poke a stick at on board Searoad Ferries. There’s magic, balloons, face painting, puppets and more. Let the kids catch dinner with Clifton Springs Boat Hire. They organise the whole lot, hook, line and sinker.

If your brood have good sea legs get them over to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club for their Tackers program where they can build their confidence in the water and perhaps win gold one day at the Olympics!

For a choice of indoor and outdoor activities, head to Queenscliff for a host of fishy adventures at Marine Freshwater Discovery Centre. While you’re down on the Bellarine, settle in at  Big4 Bellarine so you can continue the adventure down that end of town. Get a hit of nature with flower picking at Mannerim Stables or book in for a Kids Golf Clinic at Curlewis Golf Club. Sip on a wine and have some lunch in the club room while they swing the clubs about for a few hours. 

If your kids are serious train enthusiasts send them on a Pirate and Magic Train at the Bellarine Railway and the ever so cute Portarlington Miniature Railway is also operating on a few extra days to please the crowds.

Heading back to Geelong there’s still plenty left to do. Start the day with some retail therapy at either Market Square or Waurn Ponds Shopping Centres. Send the kids off on the myriad of activity awesomeness both centres run over the holidays. Parents can spend a bit of their pocket money in some of their favourite shops while they wait.

In Central Geelong, the Spring Kids Fun Program is 'Make Believe' - kids can captain a boat, talk like a pirate, learn to move like an animal, go on an adventure with a beautiful princess, dress up as their favourite fairytale character, learn to ride a Minecraft pony, sing and dance with the Mik Maks, or get behind the wheel of a Monster Truck.

Just out of town in a magical land of fairy tales, visit Fairy Park for their Alice's Adventures in Wonderland show. There are 2 shows to choose from on September 27. 

If your children have been enjoying the new Zumbo TV show, enter them into the Mega Shake Making Class at Mule Coffee Shed. They can get creative, makes for some great photos and then enjoy their yummy creations at the end.
