The Hidden Cool… Who Knew, Geelong Grew Up.

Growing up….. you change, you adapt and you ultimately transform into your true self. Geelong has most certainly grown up over the years and now it finds itself all trendy and cool! With innovative developments, hipster pockets and bustling scenes, Geelong has embraced its growth and evolved into something quite spectacular. Let us step you through all that is cool about Geelong.

In Geelong, the Little Malop Street precinct is culture central with an edge. The Geelong Library and Heritage Centre is the most striking piece of architecture in town; somewhere between a futuristic domed mirror maze and the Death Star. It’s just as impressive inside too, where tech-meets-tradition in a library that has evolved beyond books.

Next door, the Geelong Gallery has an impressive collection and a grand schedule of temporary exhibitions, including the renowned Archibald Prize in 2018 (Australia’s favourite art award). While across the road the Geelong Performing Arts Centre showcases a year round diary of world-class theatre, music and drama.

Just a little way down the street sprinkled with art installations, Little Malop Street shifts focus from visual to culinary, with a bunch of great places to eat and drink in just a short stretch. There’s casual southern style grub, international flavours such as Japanese, Malaysian or Italian, wicked donuts and a whole café dedicated to cake (I’ll have one of everything please).

Nearby, Geelong Cellar Door has brought the best of the region’s vineyards to town, showcasing legends alongside local up-and-comers in their wine bar. The venue is smart, sophisticated and super cool and offers a comprehensive range of Geelong and Bellarine regional wines, beers and ciders. With so many producers within the greater Geelong region, there’s much to taste and discover and all under one roof.

Just a couple of blocks from the CBD, Pakington Street runs from Geelong West through Newtown to the Barwon River. Known to locals as 'Pako', it has the perfect mix of traditional street boutique shopping interspersed with a host of places to eat and drink (indoor or alfesco).

The Northern end of Pako offers up a multitude of multicultural experiences and during February of each year Geelong's diversity is celebrated at the Pako Festa; a lively and extravagant festival that is guaranteed to ignite the senses with its tastes and colours.

The River End (South) has been coined the “Paris” end of Pako. It has emerged as a creative industry hub, including artistry shops and the incredible Boom Gallery. As you roam through the very trendy end, you'll find yourself some hidden gems, like Rex n Ross Barber Shop - bringing back the barber shop with their own brand of style.

Get your swagger on and take to the Geelong’s streets and alleyways, turns out our town is aging very well indeed.
