The Very Best Father's Day Gift Guide

The Very Best Father's Day Gift Guide

Father’s Day gifts… Tricky right?

You want the gift to be the perfect fit for Dad, to put a smile on his face and be remembered for years to come, rather than ending up in the back of a cupboard or worse yet, re-gifted!

So, what's it to be? A tie? Houseplant? Hankies? How about mixing it up this year with a gift that will blow your Dad’s socks off (classic Dad joke), and all available right here in Geelong and The Bellarine.

For the green-thumb Dads

For a special celebration on the actual day, bring Dad to Basil’s Café (Sunday 2nd September) where Father’s Day is in full swing. In addition to their regular (and delicious) a la carte menu, they will have two special dishes available on Father’s Day, serving up whole baby snapper and beef cheek pie. There will be live music from the talented Nadine Joy and the cellar door will be wide open for wine tastings and sales.

Or wait a week for the Spring Gardening Workshop on Sunday 9th of September, with workshops designed to teach Dad how to plan his garden, from soil preparation to a spring planting guide to an intro to irrigation - it's guaranteed to activate your Dad’s green thumb or make it even greener.

For the locomotive Dads

To honour all the amazing Dads out there, Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway are offering fathers a FREE ride. All day Sunday 2nd September, your Pop can hop on the miniature railway for FREE. Several lucky passengers will also have the chance to win some spot prizes(every train ticket purchased goes into the draw). So choo-choo-choose (classic Dad joke) this activity, pack a picnic, pack your Dad and prepare for FUN.

For the musical Dads

Give Dad some rhythm and blues on Father’s Day weekend with The Blues Train experience. Four acts across the four carriages; Blues songstress Anna Scionti featuring Eddy Boyle, multi-award winning blues act John McNamara, the electric Sammy Owen Blues Band and the very funky Safari Motel. Simply choose the carriage you think Dad will dig and let the Train do the rest. Can’t make it on Father’s Day Eve, then gift Dad a voucher and simply celebrate another time. The music is always pumping on The Blues Train.

Does Dad love dusting off his old records, popping them on the player, cutting a rug and proclaiming “now this is real music”?  Well, book him a ticket to Herman’s Hermits at Geelong Performing Arts Centre on Father’s Day eve and let him relive his youth. Huge in the UK, their Australian No. 1 hits, ‘Mrs. Brown you’ve got a lovely daughter’ and ‘No milk today’ saw the group hit it big over here too. You may not have heard of them but we're tipping he has!

For some live local tunes, Zigfrids Dining Hall & Bar are hosting The Geekers for a special Father's Day extended lunch event. They're a 5-piece taking inspiration from a bunch of Dad's favourites (think The Seekers, Monkeys & The Beatles). It's an awesome atmosphere in the Hall, with friendly service, honest food and good times for everyone.

For the sea-loving Dads

Searoad Ferries have rejigged their High Tea on The High Seas just for Dad this Father’s Day - The Blokes High Tea (sailing from Queenscliff to Sorrento, return). Head Chef Brent Love has crafted a menu of savoury and sweet dishes with blokes in mind; Pork sliders, lamb pie, maple bacon pannacotta, mini doughnuts and lots more. Make sure dad saves room for the paddle of regional beers!

Explore the wonders of the the big smoke on Father’s Day weekend. For an alternative journey, why not pick up Port Phillip Ferries weekend-long Family Pass and make a night of it? Book Dad and the fam fro an overnight stay, and take advantage of everything happening in Melbourne including The Father’s Day Fun RunMelbourne Zoo’s Father’s Day Lunch , The Real Madrid Football Experience at The Melbourne Museum and so much more.

For the adventurous Dads

Does Dad fancy a walk on the wild side? Well we have the perfect Father’s Day activity for him; a hot buffet breakfast or a special two-course lunch held at Meerkat Bistro at Werribee Open Range Zoo (followed by the zoo’s famed Safari tour). Family entry into the Zoo is complimentary when attending one of these special events. There will also be a photo booth and all the Dads attending will go into the draw to win a brand new BBQ!!! Take the old man on an adventure.

Bring a bit more bounce to his weekend with a trip to Supatramp, with over 70 connected trampolines, a wall climbing arena, dodgeball courts, an airmat, wall running, basketball rings and a toddler playground for the little ones too - there is seriously something for the whole family at Supatramp. Challenge Dad to a dunk contest this Father's Day!

For the punting Dads

The IGA Liquor Father’s Day Races are on so giddy-up! Hosted in the Silks Dining Room, Dad will lap up (classic Dad joke) the spectacular views while enjoying an indulgent 2-course meal. Kids eat FREE and Dad’s first beer is on the house! Lots of complimentary kids activities throughout the day mean plenty of track-side action for the adults. Not looking to dine-in? Pack a picnic and opt for general admission. Whichever way you choose to experience racing at Geelong, it's a winner.

For the foodie Dads

A wise (almost certainly) man once said; “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. Well Dad’s heart is going to swell (alongside his stomach) with the plethora of food-related gifts on The Bellarine.

Dad will love soaking up the views, the food and the wine at Terindah Estate this Father’s Day. Choose your dining time (two options available 12pm or 1.30pm) and then sit back with Dad, sip on a glass of vino and enjoy an indulgent 3-course alternating menu. The food, wine and the company will ensure Dad has a grin from ear to ear.

It’s a feast of festivities at Mt Duneed Estate this Father’s Day. The big guy (and conveniently you too) can enjoy a three-course lunch created as Mt Duneed’s team of talented chefs. Sampling an abundance of local and seasonal produce to produce entrée, main and dessert, plus a complimentary beer on arrival. A specially designed kids menu will also be available on the day.

Stock up for a Father’s Day feast and whip up a home cooked experience in the kitchen.  The Golden Plains Farmers Market is conveniently scheduled for Saturday 1st September, perfect timing to gather fresh produce for gastronomical gift. Chat to suppliers as you choose your ingredients, and potentially even pick Dad up a handcrafted Father’s Day pressie too.

Father’s Day is all wrapped up (last classic Dad joke). There is something for every Dad right here in Geelong and The Bellarine.
