[What's On](https://www.visitgeelongbellarine.com.au/whats-on/) 4. 5. Play Play explores how contemporary artists use playfulness, humour, and the language of games to approach subjects that are often difficult, divisive, or emotionally charged. The exhibition proposes that play is not a retreat from seriousness, but a strategy for engaging with it; a way to disarm, reimagine, and reconnect. Through irony, satire, absurdity, and acts of joyful rebellion, the artists in this exhibition blur the boundaries between fun and critique. They draw on the visual languages of pop culture, cartoons, and childlike imagination; deploying familiar, accessible forms to speak to issues of identity, power, colonial histories, diaspora, and human vulnerability. Play here is never innocent. It is a knowing strategy, one that lowers defences precisely in order to ask harder questions. The exhibition unfolds through overlapping thematic threads, tracing play as a form of resistance, a vessel for cultural continuity, and an open invitation for participation. Works range from parody and political satire to the playful storytelling embedded in living cultural traditions; from anthropomorphic sculptures that use tenderness to unsettle, to interactive and gamified works that position the audience as co-creator. In each case, play operates as both form and function, shaping not only what is communicated, but how it is felt and received. ## Dates ### 2026 #### November - Nov 7th - Nov 8th - Nov 9th - Nov 10th - Nov 11th - Nov 12th - Nov 13th - Nov 14th - Nov 15th - Nov 16th - Nov 17th - Nov 18th - Nov 19th - Nov 20th - Nov 21st - Nov 22nd - Nov 23rd - Nov 24th - Nov 25th - Nov 26th - Nov 27th - Nov 28th - Nov 29th - Nov 30th #### December - Dec 1st - Dec 2nd - Dec 3rd - Dec 4th - Dec 5th - Dec 6th - Dec 7th - Dec 8th - Dec 9th - Dec 10th - Dec 11th - Dec 12th - Dec 13th - Dec 14th - Dec 15th - Dec 16th - Dec 17th - Dec 18th - Dec 19th - Dec 20th - Dec 21st - Dec 22nd - Dec 23rd - Dec 24th - Dec 25th - Dec 26th - Dec 27th - Dec 28th - Dec 29th - Dec 30th - Dec 31st ### 2027 #### January - Jan 1st - Jan 2nd - Jan 3rd - Jan 4th - Jan 5th - Jan 6th - Jan 7th - Jan 8th - Jan 9th - Jan 10th - Jan 11th - Jan 12th - Jan 13th - Jan 14th - Jan 15th - Jan 16th - Jan 17th - Jan 18th - Jan 19th - Jan 20th - Jan 21st - Jan 22nd - Jan 23rd - Jan 24th ## Accessibility - Caters for people who use a wheelchair. - Welcomes and assists people who have challenges with learning, communication, understanding and behaviour.
