Photographer Jody Haines will help you create an assisted self-portrait within a studio setting.
In this self-portrait photography workshop, participants create their own digital self-portrait based on professional guidance. This practical session is hands-on, where photographer and curator Jody Haines will help you create an assisted self-portrait within a studio setting. Jody will guide you through making your image by helping you explore different lighting and visual language methods within the photography frame. You will then create an assisted self-portrait, designing your moment of 'Refusal/Futurity,' drawing on the titular theme of Haines' current exhibition at Platform Arts. This workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to not only have a self-portrait image at the end of the session but to learn new skills to elevate the quality of their self-led portraiture and photography.
What to bring: Phone camera for experimenting with light, colours and angles. Small Props (if you want) – clothing, materials, personal tokens etc. things that help you visualise your Refusal and Futurity — what are you refusing and how do you want to be seen?
Places are limited to eight, so be sure to book early to secure your spot.
What is an assisted self-portrait? Jody will work with you and look after the equipment and technical aspects of the image, while you have control over the shutter remote, you make your image.
