6 wineries within 6 minutes

There are over a dozen wineries scattered across The Bellarine but if you want to zoom in on a hotspot, check out this tasty selection all clustered near Portarlington (super handy if you’re catching the 70-minute ferry from Melbourne).

1. Jack Rabbit Vineyard

Try pulling your eyes away from the panoramic views at this hilltop vineyard – they stretch across the vines and the bay, all the way to the You Yangs and Melbourne. Wine tastings at House of Jack Rabbit are served on “z blades” (like fancy beer paddles, but for wine), a casual café with sun-drenched aspect. Alternatively, settle in for a truly gastronomic feast at Jack Rabbit Restaurant.

2. Scotchmans Hill

One of the oldest wineries on the The Bellarine (40 years in 2022) is also one of the best, having been given a 5 star tick of approval in the 2023 James Halliday Wine Companion. Stock up at the cellar door or take a seat in the indoor/outdoor bistro with bay views. Farmhouse style and surrounded by shady lawns and gardens, the vibe is really welcoming and relaxing.

3. Terindah Estate

This is one where the stunning views across the vines to the twinkling bay really enhance the boutique wines on offer. Grab a grazing platter and laze in comfortable lounges on their sun-soaked deck, sit down for a meal in The Shed restaurant or try their quirky Peter’s Odyssey Tram Bar, set in and around a fully refurbished W Class tram.

4. Bennetts on Bellarine

Pizzas and platters suit the relaxed atmosphere and, obviously, are best enjoyed with a bottle of Bennetts on the side. Kick back under the shade of the aged gum tree as the sun sets across the bay and festoon lights glimmer above.

5. Bellarine Estate

Family owned, these guys know how to give a good time. Visit the cellar door to sample any of their 14 wines plus Thirty Acres Distillery gin (blood orange G & T, anyone?) and enjoy woodfired pizza and smoked meats. Don’t worry about driving home because you can stay the night at Coastal Glamp, cool bell tents located right on the property. Groups will love the extra large tent, plus there are outdoor games and a big screen for movies.

6. Lethbridge @ Hat Rock Vineyard

Lethbridge Wines is one of Australia’s most environmentally sustainable vineyards and while their flagship vineyard sits 30km northwest of Geelong, this new cellar door on the Bellarine lets you enjoy their premium wines along with cheese and charcuterie platters.
