Best boutique stays on The Bellarine
Some might say they “just need a bed for the night” but I say why not make it all about the bed! And the spa. And the view. And, in fact, everything else that makes a place so good you never want to leave it.
On the tip of the Bellarine Peninsula, near the heads of Port Phillip, Queenscliff and surrounds has no shortage of tempting options to throw down your bag in and stay for the night (or longer!).
The Nest Luxury Stay
These luxury self-contained ‘nests’ are set on a 40-acre property called ‘Dadirri’ – an Indigenous word that means, ‘a place to drink from your inner spring’. It’s an apt name. The Nest is all about disconnecting from the world, and there’s plenty of space and blissful ocean views to help you achieve it. It’s adults-only and most of the five modern pods have a private spa on the deck.
Athelstane House
It’s the oldest operating guest house in Queenscliff with all the heritage appeal of a house built in 1860 but with beautifully updated rooms, each with their own unique style. The location is great too, right in the thick of the action on Hesse Street. B&B rates include a fully cooked breakfast.
Lon Retreat & Spa
Those in need of serious pampering head for Lon Retreat & Spa, tucked away on 200 acres in Point Lonsdale. Seven suites ooze wow factor and the coastal views are divine, not to mention their rejuvenating mineral springwaters and spa treatments.
Circa 1902
Picture your classic heritage-listed hotel, where rooms sit above the restaurant and bar, on Queenscliff’s main drag. The Edwardian character is retained but everything is nicely refurbished, although there are no ensuites.
Vue Grand
For a chance to relive Queenscliff’s glory days of the late 1800s, stay at the iconic and opulent Vue Grand hotel. Rooms are modern but retain their period style. Get the turret suite and you’ll have 180-degree water views, even from the spa bath! It’s convenient that quality pub food and drinks are just downstairs.
Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale Accommodation
If you’re looking for your own space – maybe a beach house, heritage cottage or a modern apartment – check out these guys. They can accommodate from couples and families up to groups of 20.
Campbell Point House
If you fancy playing Lord or Lady-of-the-manor, head for this grand French chateau style masterpiece on a huge property overlooking Lake Connewarre. There are eight spacious and individually decorated suites. Meals are served in the restaurant (AGFG Readers Choice winner 2020) and you can even indulge in a high tea.
