24 Hours in Portarlington

24 Hours in Portarlington

Fact: You cannot beat Portarlington on a good day. This gorgeous coastal township is the perfect spot for a weekend away with your family or significant other. If you’re only staying 24 hours, then you better make the most of it. Here’s a little breakdown of what we think you should include in your itinerary.

Mussel Munch

Portarlington is known for its mussels, and no trip is complete without sampling the town’s most famous exports.

Little Mussel Cafe - Family owned and operated, this cafe is the sister business of Advance Mussel Supply, and is a must-visit destination. From tasting plates to chowders, arancini balls to pies, Little Mussel Cafe has something delicious for everyone.

Jack Rabbit Vineyard - Pair a glass of local pinot grigio with their famous Portarlington Mussel dish with chorizo and tomato. Bonus: this gorgeous winery overlooks a mussel farm.

Grand Hotel Portarlington - Located a short walking distance from the iconic pier, grab a seat in their massive courtyard and indulge in a big bowl of local mussels. Don’t just take our word for it, this establishment is a Tripadvisor favourite.

Amble about town

Enjoy the stunning seaside scenery by embarking on self-guided walking tour. Start at the Portarlington Pier by the Caravan and Tourist Park and follow the 15km trail all the way to St Leonards. Grab a coffee or refreshment along the way at Indented Head.

For the kids

Choo...choo...choose to take the young ones to the Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway. The pint-sized train departs Point Richards Station and explores 8 hectares of native parklands. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the lush surroundings afterwards.

A hole in one

Fancy a relaxing day on the greens? Add Portarlington Golf Course to your itinerary. Featuring 18 holes on a tree-lined course with a fantastic bistro to unwind in after a game.
