KAYAKING & CANOEING

Enjoy the tree-lined curves of the Barwon River on a kayak or canoe, launching from the Geelong Canoe Club beside Balyang Sanctuary to begin your paddle. Be sure to check ahead for rowing events which occur regularly on the river.

Lake Connewarre is another spot for kayaking with some great bird watching to be had in this wetlands area. Outside Adventures run kayaking lessons and tours.

STAND UP PADDLE-BOARDING

The Barwon River Estuary is ideal for stand-up paddling on the right tide. Launch from the river banks and take in the sights of this scenic coastal township. Be mindful the current can be strong here, so stick to the banks and check the conditions before launching.

Gentler waters can be found at Eastern Beach and Portarlington Front Beach, both great spots for a bit of SUP’ing.

JET SKIING

Prefer a bit more speed with your water activities? A jet ski might be the thing for you. Several businesses offer jet skis for hire in the region, or you can BYO.

Geelong waterfront is a popular spot for jet skiing, with plenty of sights to whiz by and gentle waves to give some air.

Be mindful of safe speeds, distances from other boats and swimmers and keep an eye out for dolphins and marine life. Check in here for all the dos and don’ts of jet ski use in Victoria.
