Coastal pleasures
Point Lonsdale has been an idyllic coastal escape for families for generations with everything you need within a couple kilometres. Its main strip is a pretty village with cafés and shops sitting directly opposite the beach.
Amble your way along the 2.3-kilometre promenade to take in views of the bay, or pick up the pace and join the runners. Keep an eye out for Elaine, a well-known local who takes her chickens out for a dip in the bay.
Reward the day's efforts with a quiet coffee at a café along The Esplanade, enjoy an afternoon sipping local drops at a wine bar, or check out the shops and boutiques on the main street.
Enjoy it all with the views of the bay as the perfect side dish. It doesn't get much better.

In the heart of Point Lonsdale town is Front Beach, it’s picturesque and sheltered so perfect for families and those learning to surf. The beach is at its most spectacular during king tides seen just a few times a year.
Home to the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club, Back Beach is extremely popular over the summer months, for surfers with a bit of experience under their belt.
With a rockier shoreline, it’s also a go-to spot for rockpool rambling and uncovering hidden marine critters. However, it also requires respect and caution – there are strong permanent rips here that can catch out unsuspecting swimmers.

If you’re looking for thrills, head to Rip View Lookout, near Point Lonsdale Lighthouse, and watch the turbulent water race through the heads. This notorious entrance to Port Phillip Bay, where ocean and bay waters collide through a kilometre-wide outlet, creates one of the world's most dangerous stretches of water.
A tour of the famous Point Lonsdale Lighthouse, used to guide big ships through the treacherous waters of The Rip, is a great way to learn about local marine history and the infamous entrance to Port Phillip.

Tucked beside the water’s edge of Lake Victoria, there’s nothing quite like Lonsdale Links. It may just be one of the most fun courses to play Australia-wide with water views throughout the course. It’s designed as a deliberate throwback to an earlier age – nostalgically challenging and scenic to boot.
There’s a restaurant onsite in the newly redeveloped building to refuel after a match on the green and enjoy the panoramic views of Lake Victoria. A true golfing gem on The Bellarine.
