Where produce thrives
Set among lush farmland that rolls into the bay, Drysdale and surrounds is a haven for makers and growers. The fertile soil is ideal for winemakers and producers and there are many cosy B&Bs peppered across the rolling countryside.
You’re not far from the calm waters of Port Phillip here either, making for a great mix of water and outdoor activities year-round; plus access to fresh fish and farm produce.
The Dell at neighbouring Clifton Springs is a popular waterside spot for picnics, snorkelling and other outdoor activities.
Named after one of the early European Scottish farming pioneers to settle in the area – Anne Drysdale. Anne grew up around the Buck's Head Hotel (now called The Drysdale) and a pier that allowed transport of farm produce by ship to Geelong and Melbourne.
Several schools, two flax mills and an asparagus factory soon followed.
For a few hours of the high life, enjoy a degustation dining experience aboard a heritage train on the historic Bellarine Railway. The Q Train departs from Drysdale and takes in views of Queenscliff, Swan Bay, grazing horses and olive groves.
Picnics can also be curated (think smoked fish, fresh sourdough, and fresh berries) from nearby provedores or straight from the makers themselves and enjoyed at The Dell or beside Lake Lorne.

Tuckerberry Hill, Drysdale
The Bellarine Rail Trail is a 35km path that winds its way from South Geelong to Queenscliff – Drysdale is almost perfectly positioned at the halfway mark. From there, if you head to South Geelong, you’ll have an asphalt trail with views of the countryside and suburbia.
If you head to the coastal town of Queenscliff you’ll again enjoy country vistas as well as snippets of the coast, the path in this direction is mostly crushed rock.
Keep an eye out for The Q Train, as the Bellarine Rail Trail follows part of the railway line. It’s not every day you cycle beside a heritage train!
