Geelong and The Bellarine is where the coast meets the countryside, with a thriving cultural centre at its heart. The region is located 70 kilometres south-west of Melbourne, 87 kilometres from Ballarat and 20 kilometres from the start of the Great Ocean Road in Torquay.
From interstate, Geelong is located around 700 kilometres south-east from Adelaide taking 8 hours by car. And from Sydney, it'll take 9.5 hours by car travelling around 940 kilometres.
Geelong is an easy one-hour drive west of Melbourne along the Princes Freeway. Once you’re here, The Bellarine and Moorabool Valley are just 30 minutes away, making it simple to explore the region by car.
For public transport, buses operate regularly, and schedules can be found at Public Transport Victoria (PTV).
Avalon Airport is just 25 minutes from Geelong, with direct Jetstar flights from Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane. Transfers are available via MyBus Geelong, Little Avalon Transfers, Uber, or taxi. From Melbourne Airport, the Gull Airport Service provides reliable bus connections to Geelong (advance bookings are recommended).
V/Line trains run frequently between Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station and Geelong, providing a convenient and comfortable way to travel. Services also connect Warrnambool to Geelong, making it easy to explore the surrounding areas.
Travel by ferry and enjoy a scenic journey to Geelong and The Bellarine. Searoad Ferries offers a 40-minute service for cars and foot passengers between Sorrento and Queenscliff. Port Phillip Ferries operates routes from Docklands to Portarlington (70 minutes) and Geelong (2 hours and 10 minutes via Portarlington on select services). For an extended adventure, sail overnight from Tasmania to Geelong on the Spirit of Tasmania, with both overnight and seasonal daytime crossings.
Trains will help you get from the north of the region to the south, and buses will get you everywhere else.
