Three bags full

Whether you’re searching for something new to wear or hunting for a one-off find, the region has you covered for fashion, homewares, art and antiques, or the endless possibilities of a vintage market.

Go roaming and you’ll discover bustling city streets and alleyways, breezy coastal strips, and stylish precincts hidden in historical buildings.

Thrift and op shopping

Treasure hunters can head to The Amazing Mill Markets to trawl its cavernous space for vintage clothing, furniture, books, records and collectables.

There are more goodies to be found at the enormous Geelong Vintage Market, located within the Federal Mills precinct.

Those with a keen eye will love perusing the many markets that pop up throughout the region at varying times.

Op shops can be found in most suburbs, with the largest clusters along Pakington Street in Geelong West and in Grovedale.

Geelong retail

Pakington Street has clusters of eye-catching shops dotted amongst cafés and restaurants at both the Newtown end and the Geelong West end. You'll find everything from organic wholefoods stores and dedicated kitchenware outlets to designer clothing.

On the other side of town, East Geelong has a quaint shopping strip along Garden Street that's another favourite among locals. Dotted with a few boutiques and family-run stores, you can pick up some vegan goodies, a gift for a loved one and one-of-a-kind perfumes you won't find in the big stores.

Jade and May has stunning bedding as well as art and gifts - many made by local creatives. In central Geelong top spots for homewares are Townhouse Living and Empire & Laurel.

For national and global brands, including a supermarket, head to Westfield Geelong. Parking is on site and it's within walking distance to hotels in central Geelong.

Coastal strips

Charming main streets in relaxed coastal towns are sprinkled with cleverly curated shops. In Barwon Heads saunter along the tree-lined Hitchcock Avenue and turn the corner onto Bridge Road where you’ll discover Kiitos Living by Design for fashion, homewares and jewellery.

Portarlington's main drag is dotted with independent boutiques selling homewares, clothing and other special finds.

On Queenscliff’s Hesse Street, you’ll find boutiques, vintage treasure troves, shoe shops and book shops hidden behind heritage facades and wide verandahs. The harbour precinct has retail gems too.

In Ocean Grove, take a trip along The Terrace. Surf shops have colourful racks of boards on the streets and everything you could possibly need for a beach holiday.

Provedores

With an abundance of produce thriving in the region's fertile soils, it's hard to know where to start. But a provedore is a great way to sample what's available while filling up your basket.

For one-stop shopping in Geelong, The Fresh Food Merchant is an espresso bar in a market hall which brings together a deli, specialty grocer and fishmonger. It also happens to be the largest in central Geelong.

Towards the coast, the newly opened Bellarine Smokehouse + Provedore in Drysdale has a curated collection of local gourmet offerings, so too does Annie’s Provedore in Barwon Heads.

Griggs Creek Provedore in Clifton Springs is another great option on your travels. They serve up coffee too!
