If there's one thing Jeremy Cameron knows how to do (besides snagging marks and booting goals), it's enjoying his days off in the region. We tagged along for a day in the life of Jezza – no footy boots required – just a fishing rod, some golf clubs, and a heap of good vibes.
The early bird gets the worm... or in Jezza’s case, the King George Whiting. Kicking off the day at sunrise, Jeremy joined the crew at Gone Fishing Charters in Queenscliff, ready to reel in the catch of the day. With the salty breeze in his hair, it wasn’t long before Jezza was pulling in fish. Rumour has it, the one that got away was this big – but we’ll leave that to the imagination.
From the high seas to the fairways, next stop was Queenscliff Golf Club – a lush little course tucked away on Swan Island. If you're into wildlife spotting between swings (or looking for your ball in the rough), this place is a hole-in-one. The highlight? Jezza managing to lodge his ball firmly in a tree.
By now, a little liquid courage was in order, so it was off to The Whiskery – a boutique distillery tucked away in the hills of Drysdale. With a whisky in hand and a delicious food spread on the way, Jezza kicked back and let the good times be-GIN. The award-winning Teddy & The Fox Gin was the standout – smooth, locally crafted, and dangerously sippable.
What’s a day out without a frothy or two? Next up was Little Creatures Brewery in Geelong, where Jezza swapped the gin glass for a pint of freshly brewed beer. The bustling beer hall, mouth-watering woodfired pizzas and hoppy goodness made it the perfect pit stop to fuel up for the final stretch. Jezza even jumped on the brewery tour, getting a behind-the-scenes look at how the magic happens.
No day in Geelong is complete without an afternoon stroll along the Geelong Waterfront. Eastern Beach's iconic boardwalk and art deco swimming enclosure served as the perfect spot to wrap up the day. Jezza kicked off his shoes, dipped his toes in the water, and – after a bit of friendly peer pressure – took the plunge off the historic diving platform. The beers might have been cold, but the bay might have been that bit colder.
Whether you're a local or just tagging along for the ride, this day out is best enjoyed with a few mates and zero plans for the next morning.
What do you reckon, Jezza – same time next week?
