In collaboration with the Geelong Art Society Inc., the Shearers Arms Gallery is proud to present a remarkable exhibition of French Revolution commemorative posters.
This striking exhibition showcases works created by a selection of the 66 internationally acclaimed artists and designers commissioned by Artis89 in 1989 to commemorate the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.
Originally produced to mark the bicentenary of the French Revolution, the posters offer diverse cultural interpretations of human rights and explore the enduring themes of freedom, equality and resistance to oppression. More than three decades later, these powerful messages remain as relevant and thought-provoking as ever.
Featuring bold graphic design and symbolic imagery, the exhibition includes works by renowned artists and designers such as Milton Glaser, Kohei Sugiura, Michel Quarez and Gert Dumbar. Together, the collection highlights the universal significance of human rights through the unique creative perspectives of artists from around the world. This is a rare opportunity to experience an internationally significant body of work that combines history, art and social commentary in a compelling visual display.
