Kevin Hoffman Walk

The Kevin Hoffman Walk, an award winning Australian native garden walking trail in Lara, Victoria, stands as a secluded marvel along the eastern banks of Hovells Creek.

Spanning between Station Lake Road and Flinders Avenue, this hidden gem, crafted over four decades ago by local resident Kevin Hoffman, harbors a rich tapestry of over one thousand native plant species, including 150 indigenous varieties.

Covering nearly a kilometre, the meandering paths immerse visitors in a tranquil sanctuary surrounded by diverse flora. The garden ensures a perpetual bloom, showcasing unique and endangered species. Notable features include an expansive Western Victorian Volcanic Plains indigenous garden at the northern terminus, along with curated collections of Banksias, Correas (Native Fuchsia), and Eremophilas (Emu Bushes).

Landscaped with meticulous detail by Kevin Hoffman, the trail incorporates strategically placed rocks, weathered posts, and seven Wathaurong Glass-inlaid bollards. The site serves as a haven for birdwatchers and photographers, offering inspiring moments amidst vibrant blooms and scenic views of Hovells Creek.

The maintenance of paths and gardens is currently overseen by the Friends of Kevin Hoffman Walk group in collaboration with the City of Greater Geelong Council. Accessible by train and bus from Lara train station, 'The Walk' also provides limited on-street parking options along Walkers Road and Wingara Drive.
