Kevin Hoffman Walk

The Kevin Hoffman Walk is an award-winning Australian native garden walking trail in Lara, Victoria.

Tucked along the eastern banks of Hovells Creek, this hidden gem stretches nearly a kilometre between Station Lake Road and Flinders Avenue.

Created more than 40 years ago by local resident Kevin Hoffman, the Walk now showcases over a thousand native plant species, including 150 indigenous varieties. Meandering paths guide visitors through tranquil gardens designed for year-round colour, with highlights such as Banksias, Correas (Native Fuchsia), and Eremophilas (Emu Bushes). At the northern end lies an expansive Western Victorian Volcanic Plains indigenous garden, offering a unique insight into the region's landscapes.

Carefully landscaped with rocks, weathered posts, and Wathaurong glass-inlaid bollards, the Walk provides a haven for birdwatchers, photographers, and anyone seeking peace in nature. The setting also frames lovely views across Hovells Creek.

Today, the Friends of Kevin Hoffman Walk group, working with the City of Greater Geelong, maintain this much-loved community asset to Kevin's original high standards. Access is easy via train and bus from Lara station, with limited parking available nearby in Walkers Road and Wingara Drive.

Each year a photo competition is held, closing on 30 June. Winning entries feature in the annual calendar, a major fundraiser for the Walk. People of all ages are encouraged to enter—check the website for details.
