Local Knowledge - 5 of the Best Cafes in Barwon Heads.

If you’re looking for a place that has delicious food for all tastes, Melbourne-quality coffee or a stylish spot for a wine – look no further.

Here are my top five spots to eat and drink in Barwon Heads:

Starfish Bakery

This is the spot if you want to ‘go where the locals go’

In fact, one of the rules for becoming a local is that you regularly eat a ‘Squishy’ and drink coffee from Starfish.

This is my go-to place for long lazy coffees over weekend newspapers. Their croissants, muffins winter soups are next level, and their coffee is always perfectly dialled in. Shoes are optional and the service is casual and familiar – expect to leave here with a smile on your face – and a loaf of bread under your arm.

Annie’s Provedore

Annie’s pizzas are authentic, flavourful and moreish. The café has a very charming Italian-deli style atmosphere – dinner here makes the perfect date night. You can thank me later.

Annie’s also has the perfect bacon and egg panini for breakfast, complete with a relish I have dreams about. Grab one of these bad boys with a coffee to go and sit on the foreshore overlooking the water while you devour it. Heaven.

At the Heads

This is the quintessential Barwon Heads dining experience. Jutting out over the water, this iconic building is the place for romantic dinners, girls’ nights, weddings and birthdays. The seafood is fresh and the steaks are perfectly cooked. Or you can grab a seat outside on the balcony and enjoy a beer with a delicious southern fried chicken burger overlooking the river.

Coffetti Gelato

This cosy little ice cream and coffee spot has grown quite a cult following. The gelato is made fresh in the kitchen every day, and with flavours like Ferrero Rocher, Turkish delight and blood orange sorbet – you’ll be hard-pressed to resist! The coffee is always on point and the service is fun and friendly for customers young and old. This is definitely a spot to visit.

Ebb & Flow

The Parisienne-style seating outside Ebb & Flow is a familiar and charming site as you cross the bridge into Barwon Heads.

Not only is this café in arguably one of the best locations, it also serves up some of the best breakfasts, lunches and coffees. Ebb & Flow is the spot for warming house-made soups, yummy egg and bacon muffins, or a delicious sweet treat with a perfectly made coffee. Their rainbow macarons in particular are a hit with my girls!
