Geelong’s CBD is giving the trendy suburbs and the rustic Bellarine a run for its money when it comes to the three F’s. Funky. Foodie. Factor. The CBD is well and truly becoming an Instagram worthy foodie destination, day or night. They do say breakfast is the most important meal of the day so here’s your Saturday hit list.
I’m no early riser so if you’re meeting me for breakfast it’s more likely to be brunch.

Just recently, the sustainably friendly Little Green Corner launched its Saturday trade. Opening for breakfast and lunch you can make use of the free parking on Saturdays. Thumbs up! Little Green Corner is so much more than just a café. Their objective is to celebrate the produce of this region whilst minimising their environmental footprint. Their blackboard menu depends on what local produce finds its way through the door; be it from their network of local gardeners, farmers or the cafe's own 'Green Corner Farm'. You are welcome to take a look at the on-site garden and Hugh won’t mind a chat about any of the produce and how they have turned it into the yumminess they dish up. The team also hold unique events to keep their foodie community engaged and inspired, like salami making or sourdough classes. There’s no reason you can’t bring the kids either, serve them up a hot chocolate with house made marshmallows and they’ll love you forever.
Personally, I’ll take whatever chef Chris is offering up and the stunning seasonal asparagus on potato and tarragon rosti is an absolute winner.
Just a 9 minute walk away (yes I checked Google maps) from Little Green Corner is Freckleduck Café. Situated right in the middle of the retail precinct, it provides that perfect escape away from the shopping centre food courts. They are open 7 days a week, that’s commitment. Their menu is creative and always attractive with items like Jalapeño corn bread waffle, breaky blueberry and ricotta hot cakes and keeps up with the trends with their house made raw, vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free treats. Enjoy your Five Senses coffee with soy, almond or coconut milk.

This quirky converted weatherboard house had me at hello. As you walk in you’re already distracted by the mouth watering food in the display cabinets. With so much temptation it’s hard to make your choice, but once you place your order at the counter you receive a soft toy. Yep, you don’t get a table number, you are either an elephant, a dog or even possibly an alligator. It’s just an example of the fun nature and character of the place. If you are meeting me at Café Go you will always find me outside in their leafy and eclectic courtyard.
