What’s on for Renegades and Big Bash fans in Geelong

Geelong is hosting some huge T20 cricket this December with the Melbourne Renegades returning to GMHBA Stadium for two Big Bash League matches. There is also a free Renegades family day in the lead up. Here is everything you need to know if you are planning your trip to Geelong for the BBL.

Renegades family day

Steampacket Gardens, Geelong waterfront
Saturday 13 December, 12pm - 3pm

The lead up to the first T20 match starts at Steampacket Gardens with a free family day. You can meet the players, get photos, grab autographs and keep the kids busy with games and giveaways.

If you are making a weekend of it or travelling in for the BBL, this is an easy way to get involved before the matches begin.

Game one – First Nations Round

Melbourne Renegades v Brisbane Heat
Monday 15 December, 7.15pm

The first BBL match in Geelong for the season lands on First Nations Round. The Renegades will be wearing their new Indigenous kit and taking on the Brisbane Heat in a classic T20 showdown under lights.

Game two

Melbourne Renegades v Hobart Hurricanes
Sunday 21 December, 7.15pm

The last Renegades T20 match at GMHBA Stadium lands on a Sunday night and is set to be a big one. A solid way to wrap up a weekend in Geelong or kick off the Christmas break.

Eat and drink

A trip for the Big Bash is the perfect excuse to check out Geelong’s food scene. Little Creatures is always a crowd favourite with its brewery vibes and big share-style dishes. The Pavilion is ideal for a relaxed meal by the water, and Edge Geelong is a solid pick for drinks and snacks before or after the game. Over at the Federal Mills precinct, you’ll find a mix of good coffee, bakeries, restaurants and a distillery, as well as some vintage shopping. Things to do

Adventure Park has just opened Thunder Falls, a new freefall slide where the floor drops and you fly through fast twists and turns. It is a fun pick for families and anyone who likes a quick thrill.

Curlewis Golf Club and The Range is great for a hit or mini golf, and Sea All Dolphin Swims gets you out on the bay with the chance to swim with dolphins and seals. It is such a cool experience and always a favourite.
